Speaking of leveling up, the level up system in AoAis slightly unique. It is a system which rewards time spent in game. The player’s traditional attributes, such as Stamina, Intel, etc. can be leveled-up at any time in the game. The player chooses an attribute to level up, and, after confirmation, the attribute will level up automatically after a certain amount of time. The time needed increases each time this is done. Theoretically, a player should be able to max out his stats, given enough time. A secondary attribute section, this one related to the mechas the player pilots, are leveled up in the traditional sense, by leveling, at which point the player is given a skill point to distribute to the attribute to be leveled. This system rewards time spent in-game, and the more a player plays, the more the player becomes hooked. However this is inherently more of a hardcore gamer type mechanic and it is not very inviting to the casual gamer.Another detractor to casual gamers is the way players have to continuously rebuild their mecha. When the player gains a level, their HP, energy levels, attack strength, etc. do not automatically increase. Instead, the player has to gather stronger parts for their mecha as they play, and rebuild/upgrade it. This can result in a frustrating situation where a player gains levels, but is unlucky in terms of getting good new mechaparts, and thus does not become stronger and is unable to take on stronger enemies.
